Rolling over has a cause. Fix that, not the symptom.
Searched as "how to stop rolling over in baseball". Here is what the phrase actually means, what the video shows, and how a measured report ends the argument.
What it looks like
- Weak ground balls to the pull side, over and over
- The top hand turns the barrel over before contact
- Good batting practice, ugly game at-bats
What is actually happening
Rolling over is almost never a hands problem, even though it shows up in the hands. In the swings we measure, two numbers explain most of it: a long hand path, where the barrel goes out and around and has to turn over early, and a soft front leg, where the body keeps drifting so the barrel drops through contact. The hands are the last link in the chain, so they get the blame.
What we measure to find it
Every measurement comes from computer vision body tracking on one phone video, 33 landmarks on every frame, the same class of kinematic analysis professional organizations run on their players. Estimates are labeled EST, and no ball speed numbers are invented.
Drills that help
Set a cone gate toward center or opposite field and make tee reps count only when the ball goes through it on a line. Aiming away from the pull side keeps the barrel behind the ball longer.
Take a normal swing and freeze the finish, balanced, for a slow three count. A front side that can hold still is a front side that posted instead of drifting.
Drills are constraints, not lectures: set the task and let the player's body solve it. They work best aimed at the measured leak, which is the point of measuring first.
