Late is a length problem more often than a speed problem.
Searched as "how to fix a late swing in baseball". Here is what the phrase actually means, what the video shows, and how a measured report ends the argument.
What it looks like
- Contact deep in the zone, everything to the opposite side
- Fouls straight back on hittable fastballs
- Fine against soft arms, beaten by decent velocity
What is actually happening
Parents assume late means slow. In measured swings, late usually means long: the hands travel too far to reach the ball in time, or the load starts too late for the tempo the pitcher allows. Both are numbers in our report, and they matter because the fixes are opposites. A long swing needs a tighter path; a late start needs an earlier trigger, and drilling the wrong one makes it worse.
What we measure to find it
Every measurement comes from computer vision body tracking on one phone video, 33 landmarks on every frame, the same class of kinematic analysis professional organizations run on their players. Estimates are labeled EST, and no ball speed numbers are invented.
Drills that help
Caller shouts go at random release timing on front toss. The hitter must be loaded before the call, every rep.
Shorten the route so the same bat speed arrives sooner.
Drills are constraints, not lectures: set the task and let the player's body solve it. They work best aimed at the measured leak, which is the point of measuring first.
