Long is a measurement, not an insult.
Searched as "how to fix a long swing in baseball". Here is what the phrase actually means, what the video shows, and how a measured report ends the argument.
What it looks like
- Late on velocity despite good bat speed
- Casting, dragging, or wrapping the bat
- Coaches keep saying shorter and nothing changes
What is actually happening
Short to the ball is the oldest cue in baseball, but nobody defines how long is long. We measure hand path length relative to the player's height, so the word becomes a number you can retest. Once the number exists, drills stop being guesses: you know whether this swing needs a tighter route, an earlier start, or was never actually long in the first place.
What we measure to find it
Every measurement comes from computer vision body tracking on one phone video, 33 landmarks on every frame, the same class of kinematic analysis professional organizations run on their players. Estimates are labeled EST, and no ball speed numbers are invented.
Drills that help
The bottle behind the zone makes the long route impossible to hide.
Deep tee contact forces connection before extension.
Drills are constraints, not lectures: set the task and let the player's body solve it. They work best aimed at the measured leak, which is the point of measuring first.
Stop guessing. Measure it.
