Dropping the hands is a symptom. The measurements find the cause.
Searched as "dropping hands baseball swing". Here is what the phrase actually means, what the video shows, and how a measured report ends the argument.
What it looks like
- The hands dip before they go forward
- Pop-ups and swings under the ball
- A loopy, uphill barrel through the zone
What is actually happening
Some hand drop is normal and even useful; elite swings work slightly uphill. The problem version pairs a deep hand dip with a long hand path and late timing, which is measurable. Before drilling it out of a player, it is worth knowing whether the dip is actually costing them anything, because flattening a swing that was fine creates a new problem.
What we measure to find it
Every measurement comes from computer vision body tracking on one phone video, 33 landmarks on every frame, the same class of kinematic analysis professional organizations run on their players. Estimates are labeled EST, and no ball speed numbers are invented.
Drills that help
A rope at waist height a few feet out toward center. Count only line drives that clear it, not grounders and not moon shots.
Set the tee at the top of the zone. A true hand drop cannot get to that pitch cleanly, so the setup teaches the adjustment.
Drills are constraints, not lectures: set the task and let the player's body solve it. They work best aimed at the measured leak, which is the point of measuring first.
Stop guessing. Measure it.
